The Sounds of the Dolomites: La Scala Quartet. Roda de Vael (Catinaccio - 2300 m), Thursday, September 21, 2 p.m.
Meeting point and time: at 10 a.m. at the valley station of the "Ciampedie" cable car in Vigo di Fassa (free parking or paid parking nearby). Ascent by cable car.
Program: meeting and departure towards the Roda di Vael hut with the mountain guide. From the summit station of the "Ciampedie" cable car you will go up towards "Pra Martin" where you will take the path "Vial da le Feide", the shepherds' path, that with continous ups and downs leads to a cross with the trail no. 541 coming from the "Cigolade" Pass. From here, shortly, you will reach the venue of the concert. Return along the same route as the outward journey. On your own, you can choose other shorter return routes.
Difficulty: medium-easy. Height difference in ascent (one-way): 355 m. Height difference in descent (one-way): 63 m
Curiosities: the "Ciampedie" basin, besides being an unique panoramic point with a 360° view of the Catinaccio and Sella groups, the Vajolet Towers, Sassolungo, Costabella Ridges, Latemar, Marmolada, Buffaure and Monzoni, is the starting point for walks and treks of different difficulties. The route that leads to the Roda di Vael mountain hut, is nestled in the Catinaccio-Rosengarten group (Unesco Natural Heritage), one of the most fascinating mountain groups in the Alps. The national heritage's variety of shapes and colours carries with it numerous legends as well, among which the most famous is that of Re Laurino (King Laurin).
