The Sounds of the Dolomites: Paolo Fresu, Daniele Di Bonaventura, Pierpaolo Vacca, Giulio Ferraro, Giosuè Mazzei. Val Contrin (2016 m), Sunday, September 24, 12 noon
Meeting point and time: at 8.30 a.m. in the square in front of the Hotel Sonia (Strèda de Pian Trevisan; parking possibilities).
Program: meeting and departure towards Contrin Hut with the mountain guide. After crossing the stream Avisio, you will take trail no. 602/A, which climbs through the woods and then rejoins trail no. 602 coming from Alba di Canazei. You will on a wide dirt road, slightly falsely level, for about 2 km through undulating pastures. Once passed the Mèlga Cianci hut you will return uphill for 1.5 km until you reach the hut. Return along the same route as the outward journey.
Difficulty: medium-easy. Height difference in ascent (one-way): 518 m
Curiosities: the Contrin basin lies at the foot of the southern wall of the Marmolada, Sasso Vernale and Cime di Ombretta. Now a wonderful alpine pasture area and starting point for several routes in the Marmolada Group, it was once a conflict area with the Contrin mountain hut itself occupied by the Austrians and fully destroyed in 1915 by a bombing, rebuilt 10 years later by the Alpini who made it one of their regular meeting points.
Unico problema purtroppo, essendo considerata la data "fuori stagione", sebbene il caldo in Italia non ci abbandoni, i collegamenti con mezzi pubblici per le lunghe distanze, richiedono molto tempo, pazienza e volontà di ferro.
